Janet Froelich

Janet Froelich, a graphic designer known for her publications. She worked for The New York Times Magazine for 22 years as creative director as well as The New York Times Style Magazine. During her career at Times Magazine she played a major role in the creation of the cover that made tribute to 9/11. The cover captures the New York skyline where the lights illustrated where the towers once stood. During her career she started creating work that was considered to be controversial. Some of those pieces of work include images of Matuschka a photographer and survivor of breast cancer.

Some of Janet's other accolades include her work with Real Simple Magazine from 2009-2014 as their creative director and being the designer of Heresies, a feminist magazine. Janet's work has been displayed in the annual AIGA, The Type Director club just to name a few.

"In 2006, Froelich was inducted into the Art Director Hall of Fame. She has also been honored by the Hall of Femmes, an organization that highlights the work of women in the art direction and design".

  1. Janet's biography is indeed impressive. Real Simple magazine has some of the strongest layout and design to be found in the American press. I always refer students to real simple for a model of great design.
