Paula, since day 1, I have preached that the #1 mistake is to skew an image to fit a space rather than crop it... Do you see how the image on the front is squashed in? The equivalent is a really bad audition on American Idol, terribly out of tune. The size of the book is incorrect, making the front cover too much of a vertical rectangle..
My hope for you with this project was to take an existing (real) novel, found on Amazon and using cues about type style and size, as well as color scheme and image, re design it. I can see that you tried to design your own starting from scratch using the inside of book examples... You would have better results to google "book cover" and look at images that show front, spine and back of real books....
