Milton Glaser is an American Graphic Designer. Glaser was born in Brooklyn New York in 1929. In 1954 Glaser co-founded Push Pin Studios, the studio was noted to be the reference guide for fellow graphic artist. In 1983 Glaser teamed up with Walter Bernard, together they started the publication WMBG in New York. WMBG designed over 50 magazines, newspapers and periodicals worldwide. Glaser has done one-man shows for the Museum of Modern Art and others. He was the subject for the 2009 documentary film To Inform and Delight: The World of Milton Glaser.
Glaser is the designer of I Heart New York Logo, Glaser loved his Home so much that he gave his work to New York for free his hope was that his work would become public property. I love New York has become a popular Icon for the state and can be seen on tee shirts, mugs, and hats and can be seen all over New York and elsewhere. The I Love New York logo nets New York 30 million dollars per year. The state has 3,000 filings against I Heart Radio.
As I Heart Radio borders infringing upon Glaser’s I Heart New York logo. In 1968 Glaser designed the iconic psychedelic Bob Dylan poster.
After the 911 terrorist attacks, Glaser did a redesign on his “I Love New York logo”. Glaser added a black spot on the heart to symbolize the attacks on the World Trade Center.
“In 2004 Glaser won a national Design award Lifetime Achievement from the Cooper - Hewitt National Design Museum for his profound and meaningful long-term contributions to the contemporary practice of design” President Obama awarded Glaser the National Medal of Arts in 2009 making Glaser the first graphic artist to receive this award.
