Jan Balet was a German born artist, born in 1913 and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.  In 1938 he left Germany to live in the United States.  He settled in New York City where he began work in magazine production and achieved much success.  In addition to magazine production, Balet wrote and illustrated children’s books.  His body of work included well known magazines commercial art, illustrator, print maker, and painting.  His unique style created in a way that everyone could identify with the images, seeing themselves in it. 

I find his work to be warm and inviting, whimsical and endearing.  I love the way he uses family scenes from long ago as well as the subtle colors and clean lines.
