Maureen Ciardiello - Week 3 Graphic Designer, Jacqueline Casey

Graphic designer, Jacqueline Casey known for her collection of work she contributed to MIT, was born in Quincy, MA in 1927.  In 1972, she graduated Massachusetts College of Art with a BFA in fashion design and illustration and spent 30 years of her career at MIT.  Casey's work was greatly influenced by the Swiss Style with it's clean, asymmetrical style drawing the observer in with the large typography, small text and abstract images.  She was quoted as saying, "My job is to stop anyone I can with an arresting or puzzling image, and entice the viewer to read the message in small type and above all to attend the exhibition."  She has indeed done that with her work permanently featured at MIT, Museum of Modern Art, the Cooper-Hewitt Museum and the Library of Congress.  Casey died in Brookline, MA in 1992 at the age of 65 after a battle with cancer.
