New video on how to do this project

What does a clean stamp project look like?

Hi Everyone,

Here is an example of a good looking stamp project done in my day class by Emily.  Notice how the margins are equal and even, how the distance to the scallop is even and equal, how the text is legible and clean and consistent.  One template, 4 images.  We did this together in class to remember the great Aretha Franklin who died of pancreatic cancer in the fall.

Click on the image to make it large.

One way to make your type more legible is to choose a clean background then contrast the type by choosing the opposite value.

Begin with equal margins, lay out one stamp and drop 4 images onto the master project.  I will make a new video taking you through this project....

WK2 Graphic Designer Review

I selected Jessica Hische.   She was born in North Carolina and balances her live now a days between California and New york.  She is an American letterer, illustrator and type design.   She graduated from Tyler School of Art.  When she started she worked at two designer organizations.  In 2009 she decided to focus on freelance work as a letter, illustrator and designing.  She had a greater appreciation toward a work life/personal life balance.  Her work has featured in a few magazines and has been mentioned in Forbes 30 under 30.  Her time at Louises Fili gave her the opportunity to create a "love" stamp that was quite lovely and eye catching.

WK 2 Stamps (4)

I decided to do stamps on National Parks.

I changed the black to white and tried to keep the size close to the edge of the scallop.  On Hawaii white is tough due to the clouds, I moved it a shift down to be able to see it.  I know we probably shouldnt to that.  Could I have mixed some white font and some black font?

Irma Boom is known as the “Queen of Books,” with creating well over 300 bold projects that make her readers think outside the box. Irma’s books are physically unconventional and her content within the book also. She enjoys experimenting with different designs that leave the world feeling challenged and engaged. Irma Boom is the youngest recipient to receive the Gutenberg Prize which “recognizes outstanding service and the advancement of the book arts”. Irma Boom also has her own showcasing at the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands called Irma Booms Archive and a permanent collection of books at MoMA.

Irma Boom is Dutch graphic designer who is known for her creativity in her book making. Irma Boom’s books vary in design, all intriguing to the eye. Boom’s variety includes particular thoughts even to the how the edges of the books are formed. She also may transform the written content and have it begin with huge letters and slowly decrease in size. In one of her books,” The Road Not Taken,” she used different scents like beef bouillon and incorporated it with the ink used to write the book. Another cool development she created is the “fat book” which is a two inch book and double that in thickness. All of Irma Boom’s enhancement are known to have a logic behind them. Nothing she does is “just because”. They say that “Every little detail is analyzed to maximize its engagement potential in contrast to its digital counterparts. Irma Boom makes no mistakes!

One of Irma’s quotes that she uses to explain her books are, “I compare my work to architecture. I don’t build villas, I build social housing. The books are industrially made and they need to be made very well. It’s never art. Never, never, never.”

Artist: April Greiman

April Greiman, who grew up in New York with a computer analyst father and meteorologist brother became known as the artist who embraced the computer and computer programming in regard to art, as just another tool to use. It is no accident she embraced computers the way she did, she was surrounded by them as a child. At a time where many thought the use and integration of computers into the artist world would compromise creativity, she promoted just the opposite. An eccentric woman, who rather than refer to herself as a graphic designer called herself a trans-media-artist, she named her agency "Made In Space". She is currently location in Los Angeles, creating and teaching under the pretense that art "...blends technology, science, word and image with color and space..."One of her most recent works titled "Hand holding a bowl of rice", is interactive yet creative, and has a freshness about it.
